The Participant assumes the role of a newly appointed Support Officer for a group of Sales Managers working for the software supplier, Burgundy Solutions Ltd. Due to unforeseeable circumstances, there is no handover period. The Participant is required to deal with issues such as identifying, allocating and co-ordinating the managers’ schedules to fulfill internal and external demands, to request goods and services and to monitor associated internal procedures, for example, querying customer contracts and invoices.

The Participant assumes the role of a Trainee Store Manager working for a major international retailer, EuroBargain, which has numerous hypermarkets across Europe. The Participant is asked to deal with a range of issues typical of those faced in a retail environment. Issues include standard day-to-day management tasks relating to sales figures, stock levels, staffing challenges and customer liaison, as well as a number of non-standard tasks.

The Participant assumes the role of an Office Assistant who has been sent by a Recruitment Agency to the Council Tax Office of Lowborough County Council. Due to the last Office Assistant leaving the job without giving notice, there is no handover period. The Participant is required to deal with issues such as arranging meetings for the Council Tax Office Managers, co-ordinating their diaries, ordering stationery supplies, dealing with queries and responding to customer complaints.

As a Management Trainee at Hall & Murray Ltd, a medium sized HR Consultancy firm, the Participant is tasked with completing the production of a publicity brochure in readiness to attend a trade fair. The task is to develop a plan to co-ordinate all the necessary activities including liaison with internal departments, copywriters, graphic designers and printers. Because the budget has only been recently approved, this has to be completed within a tight timeframe.

The Participant is asked to assume the role of a newly appointed HR Manager recruiting a variety of staff for positions in a hospital in Saudi Arabia. The challenge is to co-ordinate all the necessary advertising, interviewing, approval of short-listed candidates, booking medical examinations, arranging visas and assuring travel arrangements, so the staff arrive on site according to an agreed schedule.

The Participant assumes the role of a Customer Service Agent working for a small low cost airline. It is the Participant’s first day having taken over from their predecessor who has transferred to another department within the airline. Due to an urgent offsite meeting, no other members of the organisation are available. The Participant is required to deal with internal and external customer issues and complaints such as damaged baggage, complaints against staff, reservation errors, rota checking and policy document checking.

The Participant is asked to assume the role of an Administrative Assistant who has been called in to replace am employee who has suddenly been taken ill. The Participant is required to deal with a number of important issues such as the organisation of an international conference, the co-ordination of a selection interview schedule and various other general administrative matters. The Participant is required to act decisively, prioritise and display good planning and organising ability.

The Participant assumes the role of a Graduate Trainee in the Customer Service Department of a publishing company, Ingham Ink Publishing House. They have been given the task of planning and organising a customer survey regarding one of their magazines that is losing readers. The challenge is to co-ordinate the design, content and production of the survey as well as the members of staff involved in the project. The Participant’s manager has asked to see a schedule, demonstrating their ability to gather all the relevant information, as the results of the survey are to be included in the anniversary issue of the magazine.

The Participant is asked to assume the role of a marketing executive in an FMCG company. Their challenge is to meet a launch date for a new product to respond to a competitor initiative. The task involves developing a plan to co-ordinate the activities of production, technical support, warehousing and distribution and sales, together with all the necessary external agencies.

The Participant assumes the role of a Project Manager who is responsible for managing a company-wide, computer systems upgrade at DataPro Ltd, a medium sized data processing company. Their challenge is to produce a project plan, to schedule the necessary tasks for the initial requirements stage through to final installation. A focus on efficiency is sought. The successful Participant will complete all tasks to time, budget and within regulatory constraints.
